We received a link yesterday from someone that had heard on the Rush Limbaugh show about a new "peer reviewed" study that proves global warming is not mans fault. The study is very detailed and looks about as legit as anything you'll find. The problem is the study is a hoax.No Longer Supported

The study is titled "Carbon dioxide production by benthic bacteria: the death of manmade global warming theory?" ( PDF of website. The original site is now offline), it is presented by the Journal of Geoclimatic Studies with authors that claim to be with the Department of Climatology, University of Arizona and the Department of Atmospheric Physics, Göteborgs Universitet. It claims to have been "peer reviewed" after being submitted in February and not released until November 3rd, 2007. The study goes in to great detail about how benthic bacteria are causing the rise in CO2, not man. Lots of formula, charts, references, etc. to backup their claims. Even an entire website and domain name for the Institute of Geoclimatic Studies.

As much as we would love to have this study be real I'm here to tell you its a fake. There is no “Department of Climatology” at the University of Arizona, nor is there a Department of Atmospheric Physics at Göteborgs Universitet. The authors listed are also not listed as faculty or students at those University's. The people at the University of Arizona “Climate Dynamics” department have never heard of the authors or the study. The Journal of Geoclimatic Studies is a fake, even the Institute of Geoclimatic Studies is a hoax. The domain name “” was created on November 2nd, 2007 and the so called study was published on November 3rd.

Our first clue that this was a fake was that the data looked too good, there was no variations over time, no other variables seemed to have the least effect over their conclusions. If you look carefully at the study you'll find that their historic data of “natural algal blooms” fits like a glove to the rise and fall of CO2. Nothing in nature ever fits that well. But additional research about the Journal, domain name, authors, references, etc. really clinched it that this is a hoax.

Both Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage have run stories on this study. So its starting to get lots of press. But from the people I've spoken to at the University of Arizona and from my research I'm here to tell you that this study is bogus. It was probably planted to discredit the global warming “deniers”. But all the hoaxsters have managed to do is to create yet another global warming hoax.
