Solar Activity, the cause of all global warming.

The graph above shows the global temperature anomaly since 1979 (blue) and CO2 levels (fuchsia). There is no correlation between CO2 levels and temperatures. There are very strong historic correlations between solar activity and temperatures. Right now our sun is experiencing very mild solar activity, so expect cooler temperatures! The sun image shows current sun spot activity, it is a near real time NASA image (SOHO MDI Latest Image). Click here for an enlarged view from NASA.GOV.

Quote to Consider
"The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.

Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific technological elite."

08 Feb : 18:36

And by the way, I don't consider soft core porn author and Chairman of the IPCC, R.K. Pachauri, to be a scientist either. He is, at most, a minor league political hack.

congahands
08 Feb : 16:30
Anonymous, I don't believe that scientists are the enemy. But that means that I don't consider Michael Mann worthy of the term scientist. The East Anglia staff are in the same boat. Their e-mail admissions of their behavior disqualify them from that title no matter how many degrees they have earned.

Denny
08 Feb : 14:58
Anonymous, did you see my link??? Oh yes, decades of Bogus research that uses "scare tactic's...Now that's real Science..I think you should read this instead...but of course you probably won't.....

That is if you really care about the ClimateGate scenerio....

Denny
08 Feb : 14:50
Anonymous, blogs ARE a source of communication for article's "containing" Science information! You know that! It's just one of the Alarmist's excuse to cut this site down...Typical Alarmist!!!

How about getting to your fiasco that you believe in....Where's the Empirical Evidence that CO2 is casuing AGW??? This is the "point" to this matter...We know here that Temperature has gone up SLOWLY....That's not our issue...Our issue is what we here are complaining about....

Denny
08 Feb : 14:47
Anonymous, that depends on your stance! And NO we don't depend on Blogs but we do have these.......

Anonymous
08 Feb : 14:41
so, you guys continue to rely on blogs and political commentaries as the basis for your science.

when will you actually look at the decades of scientific research.

or are scientists still the enemy when discussing matters of science?

Denny
08 Feb : 14:14
I recommend going there and posting your comments on that site in the below article! Let them know how you feel!!! I just did!

Denny
08 Feb : 14:07
Gee, Obama starting up a "new" agency dedicated to addressing the impending doom of Global Warming....Where in the H@#* did he find monies for that!!!

stop smoking pot
08 Feb : 12:35
a fact said,
"I have chosen to stay in the city so that my acreage is that much more enjoyable."

So the less you're on your land the more you enjoy it??

Do the squirrels have the ability to form the concept of
enjoyable? The only way I could enjoy 100 acres would be to live on it and, I'll use
the evil word exploit, but if you hunt and feed the animal population you are in fact exploiting it's resources.

SFM
08 Feb : 12:02
To A Fact. I am also a hunter. It just seems that your definition of "managing" is to kill a few deer and squirrels. I just wonder how your 100 acres was able to survive for the millions of years before you bought it. I mean without those birdfeeders and whatever other food you provide for animals how could they have possibly have survived all this time. If you truly want it to remain wilderness, you dont introduce artificial food supplies, cabins, and solar panels. Look if you like killing animals and eating them, fine. But dont try to feed us some holier than thou, "I am the Lord of the wilderness" BS. Can you tell me EXACTLY how many deer and squirrels live on your 100 acres. If you cant , how do you know how many to kill, you know just to help them out. Looks like you apply the same theories to AGW as you do "wilderness"

Denny
08 Feb : 08:50
A fact...I thought you weren't coming back! Anyway, I'm happy to see that there is SOMETHING in common...Rural living is the ONLY way to live IMO...Wouldn't trade it for, well maybe one place..

This is what makes America great, at least for the moment, to have opinions, beliefs and being able to debate the Issues...Common Sense is of what value to People??? I often wonder of this statement...For me to see AGW, it's kind of obvious to me...But I have taken "a lot" of time to study this issue on both sides! Of course if you have a Scientific Interest it does help to see thru the retoric...Not saying you don't have it, A fact but it's obvious you don't know your Science...But that's OK also....we all have our weaknesses...as I do also....

Denny
08 Feb : 08:43
Well, a pretty good Super Bowl last night...You could tell that the Saints wanted it MORE than the Colts! They do have a good team...The player in that controversal call with the 2 point conversion was from Toledo Ohio...Happy to see another team make the Super Bowl list! This was the "best" scenario's from the regional to the Super Bowl I've seen in my time...All tight scored games! That's the way it should be....

A fact
08 Feb : 08:38
Denny I manage 100 acres of my own property.Yes i do hunt on the landI believe gun control is hitting what you aim at) I eat what I harvest and I believe in keeping my deer and squirrel populations to a level the environment can sustain them.I feed birds and the other wildlife on my property. In my life this place will continue to stay stay as it is wilderness.I have chosen to stay in the city so that my acreage is that much more enjoyable.I do have a small cabin on my property that I can stay in.I hope to put solar panels up this spring because I have no electric ran to my cabin.I also plant a new fruit tree every year, they usually end up with a blite but I will keep trying.Yes Denny I too am an American who just happens to not agree with you on certain issues.Ron I did not respond to you because you will believe what you believe and I will believe what I believe,I can see no more reason in discussing this matter with you.

Denny
08 Feb : 08:25
ron, that's one of my favorite's from Penn & Teller....here it is!

sean
08 Feb : 06:33
i agree

ron
07 Feb : 18:18
The episode also pointed out what happens when you appeal directly to emotion, such as sadness or fear. It also shows me that many people, in spite of their advanced education, do not have even a high schooler's understanding of science. And what is scary is that these people are old enough to vote on matters of science and the environmnent.

ron
07 Feb : 18:17
The h2o bit came from an episode of "Bull*&%$" by Penn and Teller. They went to a "green" fair and had people sign a petition to ban dihydrogen monoxide. Every single person signed without questioning or blinking. It made the people "feel good" to do something about the environment. And these weren't "slovenly" construction workers, like myself. These were college-educated people, mostly, and every one thought they were up to speed on environmental "issues."

ron
07 Feb : 18:17
Alright, I will spill the beans about the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide, since A Fact refused to respond to that. I have been dealing with dihydrogen fallout today. Intermittently. It causes to CO2 producers to continue putting out CO2. It also causes other things to put out oxygen. What is dihydrogen monoxide, some may ask? H2O. Water.

SFM, Ok, thanks for answer about the Bluebirds..just was checking on your observation skills...

Denny

SFM, what time is Kick-Off???

SFM
07 Feb : 15:00
Going to a Superbowl party in a little while. Should be a good game but the Saints are going to need a few breaks. Manning is tough. Win or lose Ill still get a bellyfull of good ol South Louisiana food. I might even drink a CARBONATED beverage just for spite. These are definitely bluebirds. Beautiful blue backs and an orangish breast. Weve had blue jays my whole life.

Denny
07 Feb : 14:44
SFM, people do confuse the Eastern Bluebird with BlueJays...Can you post a pic in the Latest Forum Posts of what you've seen??

This is the "first" time I've mentioned this portion of my Life...It's been definitely rewarding....Maybe soon I'll put together an article with my pics of what I have and done......

This was suppose to be the year that the Arctic was going to lose "record" amounts of ice. In fact the "experts" were saying that the North Pole would be "ice free in 2008". That isn't going to happen, in fact the North Pole has up to 30% more ice this year than last year at this time.

We've been hearing the frightening predictions for a few years now that the Arctic was soon going to be "ice free". The past 18 months the media has been full of reports that the arctic was going to be "ice free in 2008 for the first time".

This didn't happen. Not only did it not happen but the Arctic actually gained up to 30% more ice in 2008 over the same period in 2007. Now that summer is over in the Arctic it is quite obvious that the North Pole won't be ice free this year.

The University of Illinois Cryosphere Today project shows the Arctic sea ice extent up 30% from last year at this time:

The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) at the University of Colorado Boulder, CO shows Arctic sea ice extent up by over 13% from last year:

We're not sure why these two projects would show this much of a difference (Cryosphere data for August 1st was even more divergent from the NSIDC data). But either way you look at it the Arctic was not ice free this year, not even close to it.

So children can rest easy that knowing that Santa Claus and his Reindeer are safe for another year. As are the beloved Polar Bears. Children should also know that the North Pole has thawed before and the Polar Bears did just fine (we're not sure what Santa did but he obviously didn't perish). Don't let the big bad news media scare you with statements such as "record ice loss", they are referring to records that began with satellite measurements in 1979. Breaking a 29 year old record in sports might be a big deal, but when you're discussing the Earth's climate history 29 years is meaningless.

god I can not believe the kind of garbage that are!
thaaat's a total example of a ignorant and dreamer person! it's soo absurd that ignores the fact that day by day people dying from lack of water, (evaporated by this phenomenon),and that life in Antarctica each day that passes is extinguished more!

open your eyes!
we're facing a problem bigger than all of us!
global warming is a fact that is happening and it's affects us!
it is not possible to publish such stupidities!

I can't believe, how dumb some people are.If the media tells them to jump off a bridge ,its the only way to save the planet. They would do it ! WAKE UP. Global warming is a scam to steal as much of your money as
possible.DON'T BE AN IDIOT.
Spend time in nature and you will see, unexplainable things happen,And they always will.No matter how many taxs you pay.
Just to say it,If we were in a warming trend,
there wouldn't be a thing anyone could do about it.

are you serious!!! how do you not see that the world that we live in today is being effected daily. tornadoes are getting worse. more hurricanes are hitting the coast bigger ones as well and there isnt anything wrong with the world people such as yourself are ignoring the simple fact that global warming is a big issue but are to afraid to face it. you cant live with the simple fact the world is here now but may not be in 2 years come on wise up and keep an open mind look for answers yourself and dont believe the media half of it is bull [censored] anyways but dont let someone answer your questions for you find the answer and stick by it

You obviously haven't read very much of what this site has to offer. Tornadoes are not getting worse, and there aren't more strong hurricanes making land fall. The Al Gore crowd has only successful in turning public opinion by lying and deceiving.

This is possibly one of the funniest/stupidest sentences i've ever seen! My sides hurt from laughing! How can you say that the world may not be here in two years from global warming and still call yourself an intelligent being? The temperature has risen .25 degrees per decade since 1979. That's .75 degrees in almost 30 years. When you say that the world won't be here in two years are you calculating that from the .5 degrees more that the temperature will rise in those two years? I kinda think that .5 degrees will not cause the world to do something that will make it cease to exist. And seeing as there was 30% more ice at the north pole than last year, makes me wonder why you crazy Gore-puppets are running from the coasts screaming 'Flood!'

During the 1950's and 1960's, all the storms, floods, etc were blamed on atmospheric nuclear testing. Today carbon dioxide is the villain, tomorrow who knows.

In 1974, Time magazine had a cover story about he coming ice age.

Scientists of past centuries used blood letting as a cure. If science relies on a so-called consensus to block out debate---a la GORE--then gallileo and einstein and others would be banished or ignored for comitting scientific heresy.

Those who look at today as unique or alarmists have also forgotten about the worldwide famine predicted in the 1980's--10 of millions dying of starvation-- (which was inevitable as the consensus of science agreed)--also not read history about the devastating floods in china killing millions in the 19th century and earlier.

I read an article by the original author of this information. He apologized for his inacuracies. He figured the 30% number by counting pixels!!! He did not realize that the 2007 photo and the 2008 photo did not match up exactly. Hardly a scientific method - especially when the data he's using hasn't been verified. You can't just download a couple of photos and match them up and then say, "see, no ice loss" - and by the way, now I"m going to write an aritcle about it, and claim I'm some sort of expert"

If fact we lost another million square kilometers of ice this summer.

But will the author of this post recant the story? Or are you too focused on "winning" the conversation. There is absolutely no scientific basis for this story. The real data, and the real scientists are taking REAL mesurments and making Real observations. And they say it's melting. Look at the pictures and data for yourself.

So, enough BS and see the million sq km of ice loss for what it is!!!

IT IS GLOBAL WARMING!!!! - How can you deny this?

If you want to blow your hard earned money on crap to make these people rich then by all means go ahead no one's telling you to not to. I do believe in cleaning up the earth but not at the expense of making Al Gore the more richer or rubbing it in people's faces that if we don't act now we'll all die because of global warming!!!

If one believes the earth to be billions of years old would it not be beneficial to say that we're just going through one of earth's cycles and there's nothing we can really do about it? Global Warming is a scam and I feel sorry for those that follow this trend so blindly.

see al gore isnt trying to get richer from his movie he is trying to open up the eyes of the people to let them see that everything we have been doing is donating towards global warming and we should try to change the way of life and how we been persuing it. the use of fossil fuels is becoming an all time high prices are out the scale why dont you truly watch the movie and look at the images they arent fake or a hoax

With 11 points of BS on al's scifi movie that has been found, I would not be quoiting numb nuts.
As already noted in als anti human, woman book, Earth in the balance, he would stop at nothing to earn money and gain what ever power he could by using and BS-ing anyone he could.
Unfortunately, those that are easiest to fool also have a large amounts of money and power themselves. And these idiots use these tools to finance commercials, copy books, or make scifi movies advancing the snake oils sales line.
Great way to make millions, and travel around the world in a private jet leaving the same amount of carbon foot print as alic baldwin 30 minuets after an all you can eat taco & re fried buffet.

NSIDC data still shows a 13% increase over last year. If you look at the University of Illinois Cryosphere Today images there is obviously more that a 13% increase in their data over last year. This is data that scientists, such as those at the IPCC, rely on to be accurate. If its not accurate how can we trust any conclusions based off of it?

Tom - Most of the experts that I saw quoted were always sure to say "could" or "good chance" that the arctic would be ice free this year. Even they know its impossible to predict regardless of how much money they put in to their computer models. Here is a quote from one of the NSIDC experts: "Could the North Pole be ice free this melt season? Given that this region is currently covered with first-year ice, that seems quite possible."

It could just be possible that the arctic is going to continue to gain ice for the next 50 years too. But don't hold your breath waiting for the NSIDC people to say that, they have to much invested in this money maker.

Where do you get these numbers from? Not from NSIDC:

Conditions in context

Despite overall cooler summer temperatures, the 2008 minimum extent is only 390,000 square kilometers (150,000 square miles), or 9.4%, more than the record-setting 2007 minimum. The 2008 minimum extent is 15.0% less than the next-lowest minimum extent set in 2005 and 33.1% less than the average minimum extent from 1979 to 2000.

This season further reinforces the long-term downward trend of sea ice extent.

Notice they say 9.4%.

And not from the University of Illinois. Their area graph shows a tiny difference between the minima, not more than about 2%. I can't imagine how someone could have gotten that 30% figure you quote.

Also, I think you're confusing the North Pole (the point on the map) with the Arctic (the entire region). Statements that it was possible that the North Pole *could* be ice-free this summer were based on the observed fact that earlier in the year the front of the comparatively easily-melted first-year ice had passed over the pole for the first time. Even if the pole had become ice-free, there would have been a considerable amount of sea ice yet to melt.

"But don't hold your breath waiting for the NSIDC people to say that, they have to much invested in this money maker." Money maker? Seriously? Evidence for that?

Read the following quote from the NSIDC website and tell us what would happen if the NSIDC repeatedly told the world that there was no problem. Verses what happens if they continue to tell everyone that the planet is in big trouble:

"The National Snow and Ice Data Center is funded at the project level by national agencies. Primary among these agencies are the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Scientists at NSIDC receive research funding by competing for grants and contracts from NASA, NSF, NOAA, and other agencies."

--- NSIDC Mission Statement

Fear and danger equals project funding, sunny and secure means job layoffs.
